Internet Marketing Lessons (and free SEO tools)

Submitted by Simone on November 15, 2008 – 8:05 amNo Comment

It has been a long time since I posted.  I have learned a HUGE amount in internet marketing in the past few months.  The first thing I learned that the people who teach internet marketing are EXTREMELY good at what they do.  Many of them are simply brilliant salespeople , and we should learn from them.  The important thing is differentiating between the people who are brilliant salespeople with no substance, and brilliant salespeople who are also great teachers and coaches. But more about that later. The biggest lesson I have learned is to be very circumspect about buying from everyone who makes an offer that seems like one we can’t refuse – I promise you – the really good offers don’t disappear, and there is a new and great offer every day.

The concept of the standard sales page is a great one. If you study sales and marketing techniques, a good sales page will hit most sensitive notes.  Instead of being sold by those pages, you might want to think about reading them and copying them for their art, instead of buying whatever is being sold.  It is easy to spend thousands of dollars on internet marketing and internet marketing related products without actually getting anything of real value.

I have purchased a lot – from basic products to coaching… There are few who actually deliver what they promise. Most people in the IM industry will tell you that “relationship is everything”. Many of them suggest coaching as a way to “purchase friendship”, and then develop a relationship…  While I have come to see that joint mailings and Joint Ventures are the best way to mail and make money quickly, my advice to you is to be very careful. While it is a good theory, intrinsic logic says that you can’t really buy friendship, can you? Also, what I have found is that the majority of people I have met on the speakers circuit are a whole lot better at managing their own business than sharing the wealth of knowlege that they have.  I am not sure why this is… I don’t believe it is maliciousness.  It might have something to do with the fact that really successful people in the industry will not release their true proprietary information, because then they might lose their edge.  It might be that they have been in the business so long that they have forgotten the very, very basics of what people need to start from scratch … I think that you should beware of people that make more money selling coaching than they do online.

There are some notable exceptions to this rule.  Ross Goldberg, for example provides so much value and information for free that one wonders how he can make a living.  His information is well-presented and concise.  Personally, i think he could charge 1000’s for the free reports he provides. Go to http://www.seodiamond.com/ . Google likes him a lot (I told you this guy is good) so if you do a search on Ross Goldberg, all sorts of interesting stuff comes up.

Life is definitely very interesting in the internet marketing industry, and I think that a lot of people over-complicate how to set up a website and produce a sale-able product.  In the past 4 months, I have found some incredible information, which I will be more than happy to share with you.  More about that later.
